National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) Sectors

NTEP Certification provides confidence that a device will be manufactured in accordance with United States standards as adopted by NCWM and published in NIST Handbook 44.

NCWM relies on specialized committees called NTEP Sectors to develop the technical policies, evaluation checklists, and test procedures used by our authorized laboratories to evaluate devices as published in NCWM Publication 14.   For the most part, these Sectors meet annually.

Sector members include authorized laboratories, manufacturers, technical advisors and the NTEP Administrator. The sectors provide a forum for consensus building among the evaluators and the technical experts who design and market the equipment. Sector meetings are open to the public and registration fees are waived for all NCWM members. There are five NTEP Sectors, each specializing in a particular area of commercial weighing and measurement.
