Industry Committee on Packaging and Labeling
The Industry Committee on Packaging and Labeling is comprised of those Associate members whose companies manufacture consumer products in package form. This portion of the Associate Membership has a vested interest in uniform requirements and enforcement practices among all local, state and federal agencies. The Committee also promotes harmonization of U.S. package labeling requirements with international requirements in an effort to reduce trade barriers and production costs.
Activities:
The Committee meets 2 times per year in conjunction with the NCWM Interim and Annual Meetings. The activities listed here are in support of the NCWM mission to advance a healthy business and consumer climate through the development and implementation of uniform and equitable weights and measures standards. Volunteer activities of this committee include:
- Development of proposals to amend model NCWM standards for package labeling and net quantity verification
- Provide expertise to the NCWM Standards development process as it relates to packaging and labeling issues
- Promote opportunities to harmonize U.S. requirements with international requirements to facilitate trade
- Promote training opportunities for state and local regulatory officials in the areas of packaging and labeling
