Our Organization
The National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM) is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to developing the U.S. standards for weights and measures. As such, NCWM leadership consists of volunteers who serve on our Board of Directors and committees. The NCWM is governed by Bylaws as adopted by membership and policies as set by the Board of Directors. NCWM has three standing committees. The Specifications and Tolerances Committee develops the specifications, tolerances and other technical requirements for weighing and measuring devices as published in NIST Handbook 44. The Laws and Regulations Committee develops the model laws and regulations as published in NIST Handbook 130 and procedures for checking net contents of packaged goods as published in NIST Handbook 133. The Professional Development Committee promotes training and certification of individuals in all areas of weights and measures.
NCWM’s National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) is governed by the NTEP Committee. NTEP uses a system of technical committees called “NTETC sectors” to develop the type evaluation technical policies and checklists. NCWM supports the work of the Belt-Conveyor Scale Sector, Grain Analyzer Sector, Measuring Sector, Software Sector and Weighing Sector.
The Associate Membership Committee is a subset of NCWM membership exclusively for members representing the private sector. Also governed by a set of bylaws, this committee promotes the work of NCWM and uniform training of state and local weights and measures officials.
